Middle Judicial Circuit- Assistant Public Defender I
The Middle Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant Public Defender I serving Toombs, Candler, and Emanuel Counties. The Assistant Public Defender I will provide dedicated legal representation to indigent clients throughout all phases of criminal proceedings including arraignment, pretrial hearings, trial preparation, plea negotiations, trial, and sentencing. This is an entry-level position ideal for attorneys committed to public defense and mastering courtroom experience. The chosen applicant must be an active member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia and have a strong commitment to indigent criminal defense.

Description of Duties: The Assistant Public Defender I will be responsible for providing competent and zealous legal representation and advocacy to indigent clients. This position performs beginning level professional legal work and may assist in cases of routine complexity, representing clients in cases including the most serious, legal complex, high-profile and/or significant cases assigned to the office. Candidates must possess a Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university and a license to practice law in the State of Georgia. Performs other related duties as required.
