Job Summary
The Georgia Department of Education - Assessment and Accountability is recruiting for a Director of Accountability. This position provides strategic leadership and technical expertise for Georgia’s statewide accountability system, the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI), and related federal and state accountability requirements. This role oversees the development, implementation, communication, and continuous improvement of accountability systems, policies, and reporting to ensure accuracy, transparency, and clear connections to Georgia’s vision of providing all students with a high-quality public education. The Director of Accountability works collaboratively with districts, other GaDOE offices, state leadership, and external partners to ensure that accountability data are accurate, meaningful, accessible, and useful in informing the improvement of student outcomes. Key responsibilities include:
Leadership and Strategy
- Lead the development, implementation, and refinement of Georgia’s statewide accountability system, including CCRPI and federal school identification.
- Balance detailed technical work with big picture vision, ensuring the accountability system remains coherent, meaningful, and aligned to statewide priorities
- Manage an Accountability Team of five, who are responsible for calculations, documentation, communication, and district support, while facilitating strong collaboration with the Tech Services team
- Coordinate with internal departments including Assessment, Technology Services, School and District Effectiveness, Teaching and Learning, CTAE, Federal Programs, Policy, and Communications
- Provide expert guidance to GaDOE leadership on accountability policy, measurement, and reporting
- Analyze, interpret, and respond to federal and state legislation affecting accountability
Accountability System Management
- Manage maintenance of and updates to accountability indicators, business rules, calculations, and reporting structures.
- Ensure the technical quality, validity, reliability, and timely release of accountability measures.
- Oversee development and implementation of school identification processes for support and improvement (i.e., CSI, TSI, ATSI, Tier IV).
- Coordinate with assessment, tech services, teaching and learning, CTAE, and other program areas to ensure alignment of indicators and data sources.
Data Quality & Reporting
- Oversee business rules, data validation processes, and quality checks to ensure accuracy and transparency.
- Lead the annual accountability cycle, including timelines, documentation, data collection windows, calculation processes, and public release processes.
- Supervise production of state, district, and school accountability data, reports, and communications.
- Provide clear, accessible explanations of accountability results to stakeholders, including educators, families, and policymakers.
District Support & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the primary statewide point of contact for accountability questions from districts
- Lead annual trainings, webinars, and guidance materials for districts and GaDOE staff
- Communicate complex accountability concepts in understandable ways for a wide range of audiences
- Build collaborative relationships with districts to promote understanding and effective use of accountability data
Represent GaDOE on committees, working groups, and national accountability forums
**This is a remote/telework position based in downtown Atlanta. Some statewide and out-of-state travel will be required.
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the entry qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
Master’s degree in education administration, education research and statistics, or a related field
Five or more years of experience in K-12 education, accountability, data analysis, or related roles
Strong understanding of state and federal accountability requirements, including the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
Familiarity with CCRPI measures, business rules, and data sources
Proven success in leading teams and managing complex projects
Experience supporting school districts or working at a state education agency
