Job Summary: Under Direct Supervision

1.    Participates in Yellow-Legged Hornet Eradication Activities:

·         Deploys approved monitoring traps for Yellow-Legged Hornet Eradication

·         Enters monitoring trap information into Plant Protection’s mapping software

·         Checks monitoring traps as directed by supervisor, approximately once per week, from March until mid-December, and every 2-3 weeks the remainder of the year.

·         Changes the bait/lure each time the monitoring trap is checked or as directed.

·         Re-deploys if the original trap is damaged, missing, or otherwise needs replacement

·         Enter the correct information into Plant Protection’s mapping software when checking monitoring traps

·         Notifies supervisor when yellow-legged hornets are found in a monitoring trap

·         Assists in nest location activities

2.    Participation is needed in public outreach and education:

·         Speaks to bee clubs and associations as needed, provides updates to GDA activities (YLH, pests/diseases, etc.)

·         Provides information, as needed or requested, to be used in educational or public outreach activities.

3.    Participates in Plant Protection Programs

 

 

Performs other duties as assigned

 

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, horticulture, biological sciences, or a directly related field OR Ownership or management experience in an agricultural or horticultural business. 
  • Experience in monitoring for pests
  • Working knowledge of Windows computer operating systems and applications.

 

 

Physical Demands:

1.    Incumbents in this job must work outdoors in varied terrain.

2.    Intermittent periods of walking, squatting, kneeling, and driving.

3.    Must be able to lift 50lb boxes.

4.    This job requires travel. May be responsible for providing transportation to work sites. 

5.    Must be able to hang monitoring traps 4 to 6 feet off the ground.

6.    Must be responsible for providing transportation to work sites. 

7.    Work mileage will be reimbursed at the federal rate.

High school diploma/GED and one (1) year of experience in the area of assignment; or two (2) years of college, which included 12 semester hours or 20 quarter hours in chemistry or life sciences.
