Agriculture Inspector 1 - Structural Pest Field

Position Overview:
This position is located within the Structural Pest Division (SPD) of the GDA.
1. The SPD is responsible for licensing and regulating pest management professionals, specifically those engaged in the business of structural pest control in the state of Georgia.
2. The SPD employs inspectors who perform routine inspections and comprehensive investigations to determine compliance with the Structural Pest Control Act and other state and federal laws.
3. All inspection staff must participate in training and educational workshops and attain the required credentials.
4. Each position is assigned to a specific district in which they are required to reside.
5. Under general supervision, this position performs routine inspections and comprehensive investigations to determine compliance with the Structural Pest Control Act and other state and federal laws. Inspection sites often include basements, attics, and crawl spaces.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
This position is assigned to the following county:

Applicant must reside in this county or surrounding area or be willing to relocate.
1. Conducts inspections/investigations to determine compliance.
2. Investigate and coordinate complaints on complex issues and determine compliance or non-compliance.
3. Write reports of inspections/investigations describing findings, conclusions, and potential effects.
4. Provides technical expertise to other staff, the regulated community, and the public.
5. Communicated technical information, including rules, regulations, laws, and procedures, by phone, in person, and in writing to answer questions or concerns and
Provide direction for the industry and the public.
6. Collects and records technical assistance activities.
7. Writes technical reports. Completes Department forms and reports.
8. Maintains knowledge and develops expertise/resources in focus areas(s).
Physical Demands:
· Must be able to work without direct supervision
· Maintain a Georgia driver’s license
· Travel overnight; work outdoors in all weather conditions
· Be able to lift up to 50 pounds
· Climb up to 15 feet; stand and drive for long periods.
· Intermittent squatting, kneeling, or crawling in enclosed spaces.
· Inspection sites often include basements, attics, and crawl spaces.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications, possess knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
· Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Entomology, Biology, or another related field.
· Experience in pest management, agriculture, environmental protection, or a professional position working in the pesticide or chemical industry.
· Government experience in regulatory enforcement of pesticide laws affecting the environment.
· Working knowledge of scientific and technical principles applicable to pesticide usage as well as knowledge of laws and regulations relevant to the handling of pesticides.
· Experience with inspection/investigation procedures.
· Working knowledge of pesticide technology;
Exceptional oral/written communication, public relations, and customer service skills.
· Demonstrated team orientation aptitude, flexibility, and desire for constant improvement.
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Other Duties:
Conduct other activities about the functions of the department as assigned by division management.
