POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Ag Inputs Section of the GA Dept of Agriculture includes the regulatory program for Pesticides, Seed, and fertilizers.
This program enforces state and federal rules and regulations governing pesticides; and administers all state and federal regulations related to seed and fertilizer products.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under general supervision:
· Performs routine inspections and comprehensive investigations to determine compliance with state and federal regulations and laws related to fertilizer, pesticide, and seed
· Routinely creates and writes technical reports and correspondence
· Provides applicable support to the regulated community and public; enforces laws, rules, and regulations about the processing, labeling, transporting, storing, distribution, and selling of regulated products
· Inspects and investigates for compliance with applicable health, safety, and/or environmental laws and regulations and investigates suspected violations as needed or requested
· Reports compliance findings to GDA office staff, EPA, USDA, or others
Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Preference will be given to applicants, who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
· Postgraduate work or degree in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, pest control, entomology, or a closely related field
· Prior experience conducting regulatory compliance inspections and investigations with local, state, or federal agency
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Demands:
· Potential for standing for long periods
· Must be able to lift 50 lb. boxes/bags of seed or fertilizer
· Intermittent periods of walking, squatting, kneeling or driving
· Potential for exposure to the outdoor elements for extended periods
· Potential for exposure to a wide variety of temperatures during various times of the year.
