Accounting Technician 1 or 2
Under direct supervision, performs paraprofessional accounting and fiscal control functions, such as accounts payable and budget monitoring or related general accounting processes.
· Manage invoices, process payments and ensure timeliness of payments on behalf of the department.
· Properly applies transactions in accordance with the State Chart of Accounts and the Department's budget tables.
· Process requisitions and payment packets from the Procurement Department.
· Address inquiries from customers and vendors regarding billing, payments and account discrepancies.
· Ensure adherence to accounting principles and regulations, including internal controls.
· Files documentation and tracks payments according to departmental procedures.
· Disburse payments timely.
· Other duties as assigned

Ability to determine reasons for discrepancies and correct identified discrepancies.

Ability to convey financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
Ability to learn new technologies and adapt in the workplace.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma/GED AND two (2) years of job-related accounting or fiscal experience.
OR
One (1) year of experience at the lower-level Accounting Technician Trainee (FIT019) or equivalent position.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, also possess TWO or more of the following:
Two years of demonstrated experience with Accounts Payable processing.
Knowledge or experience with State Travel Policy and TeamWorks Travel System.
Demonstrated experience with MS Excel and PeopleSoft queries.
State of Georgia accounting experience.
