Accountant Supervisor

Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Supervise the recording, classification, and reconciliation of all government revenues, including fees, licenses, fines, grants, and intergovernmental transfers.

·         Ensure revenues are recognized in accordance with government accounting standards.

·         Maintain accurate general ledger and subsidiary ledger accounts related to cash and revenue.

·         Review and approve revenue entries, adjustments and corrections.

·         Review and post journal entries related to revenue, accruals, and deferrals.

·         Monitor and reconcile revenue collections from internal and external departments/ agencies.

·         Verify deposits and ensure funds are received and recorded timely.

·         Research discrepancies, shortages and overpayments.

·         Implement and monitor internal controls to prevent fraud or misappropriation of public funds.

·         Review and validate revenue reports submitted by revenue generating departments.

·         Prepare revenue-related yearly financial statements and schedules.

·         Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue reports for management.

·         Prepare and record grant related receivables and revenue.

·         Provide guidance to departments on revenue procedures and documentation.

·         Respond to inquiries from internal/external customers.

·         Assign work, review outputs, and ensure deadlines and quality standards are met.

·         Supervise, train, and evaluate accounting staff.

·         Provide technical guidance and mentoring on revenue and GL accounting issues.

Competencies Needed:

·         Strong understanding of governmental accounting standards.

·         Ability to account fees, licenses, fines, grants, and intergovernmental transfers.

·         Knowledge of audit requirements, internal controls, and regulatory compliance for state government.

·         Advanced use of Excel or similar tools for analysis, modeling, and reporting.

·         Ability to apply financial policies and procedures correctly across departments.

·         High level of honesty, confidentiality, and accountability in handling funds.

·         Accuracy in recording, reviewing, and reporting revenue transactions.

·         Clear written and verbal communication with auditors, management, and revenue-collecting units.

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Bachelor's degree in accounting and four (4) years of professional accounting job-related experience, which includes one (1) year in a lead worker, team leader, or supervisory role.

OR

·         Two (2) years of experience at the lower-level Accountant 4 (FIP023) or position equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to those applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualification above, also possess one (1) or more of the following:

·         At least 3 years of supervisory experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)

OR

·         At least 3 years of supervisory experience and proficiency in Team Works - Accounts Receivable module with the State of Georgia government
