Student Accounts Technician
JOB SUMMARY
The Student Accounts Technician serves as the receptionist and initial point of contact for the Student Accounts Office and the Office of the Vice President for Administrative Services providing professional and courteous service while performing a variety of paraprofessional accounting and clerical duties in support of the college’s financial operations.
MAJOR DUTIES
· Provides information and assistance to students, staff, and visitors;
o Answers calls and monitors emails for the Student Accounts Office;
o Responds to or forwards calls and emails to appropriate staff;
o Processes state vehicle reservations and coordinates vehicle maintenance;
· Generates student accounts and other financial reports;
o Updates student accounts and/or staff as instructed;
o Contacts students regarding account changes as necessary;
· Assists with cash, check, and credit card payments as needed;
§ Properly receives and records receipts and computes accurate totals;
§ Identifies and reports any discrepancies between recorded receipts and printed receipts;
§ Deposits or forwards funds to appropriate staff according to established procedures;
§ Uses professional demeanor when receiving money from students;
§ Accurately balances and closes cash register;
· Prepares bank deposits as needed;
§ Accurately counts cash, checks, and/or money orders and correctly records results;
§ Reconciles receipts with total deposit, correcting any errors;
§ Correctly completes deposit documentation and retains appropriate file copies;
§ Effectively communicates with bank staff to resolve problems/discrepancies;
§ Properly secures funds until they can be deposited;
· Maintains payment plan and scholarship memos in the student accounts receivable system;
· Assists with third-party contracts for payment of student tuition and fees;
· Processes incoming and outgoing mail using established procedures;
§ Enters routine financial transactions into accounting systems;
o Receives and batches source documents according to applicable methods;
o Correctly records transactions in a timely manner;
o Reviews recorded transactions for accuracy and corrects entry errors;
o Completes reconciliations and refers problems for review;
§ Performs various accounts payable duties as needed;
· Organizes and maintains departmental records and files;
· Attends training and implements processes as directed;
· Displays a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operates effectively within the organizational structure; demonstrates trustworthiness and responsible behavior;
· Participates in assessment, planning, budgeting, and staff development;
· Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· High school diploma or equivalent *and* One (1) year of experience in bookkeeping or accounting clerical work
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
In addition to the minimum qualifications:
· Degree or Technical Certificate in Business or Accounting
· Experience working with BANNER Student A/R System
· Customer Service experience in an office setting
