Job Description, Responsibilities, Standards and Qualifications


The Georgia Commission on Family Violence (GCFV) is seeking a project coordinator for the Support for Survivors of Murder-Suicide (SSMS) Project to plan, implement, manage, and administer the social services program to meet the needs of all survivors of family violence murder-suicide incidents in Georgia. 

 

The SSMS project coordinator administers and coordinates the SSMS project’s services and deliverables, including direct client support services, stakeholder training/technical assistance, oversight and leadership for the Georgia Murder-Suicide Response Network (MSRN), and managing the murder-suicide Survivor Support Groups. In addition, the coordinator shall develop and provide resources and support to communities and constituents for strategically piloting, promoting, and implementing innovative local systemic changes to better support murder-suicide survivors in Georgia’s communities. 

Teleworking position. However, the agency’s office is located in Atlanta, GA, and the candidate must live within reasonable proximity and be able to attend office work activities when required. 


Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:

  • Direct Survivor Support: Provide professional, trauma-informed direct support and bereavement companioning to murder-suicide survivors, facilitating access to critical resources such as crime victims' compensation, counseling/support groups, and grief support.

  • Outreach and Engagement: Conduct targeted outreach to survivors, informing them about project services, including direct advocacy, bereavement companioning, and referrals.

  • Support Group Direction: Direct the execution of Survivors' Support Groups, including selecting contracted facilitators, promoting participation, soliciting participants, tracking relevant data, and providing follow-up to survivors.


     

Community Response & Protocol Development

  • Protocol Enhancement: Work collaboratively with the GCFV team and external partners to develop and/or enhance community-based responsiveness and protocols specifically tailored for the unique circumstances of murder-suicide events.

  • Liaison and Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the agency's liaison for sharing information on murder-suicide and as the subject-matter expert and agency resource in the assigned area.

  • Technical Assistance & Training: Provide training, technical assistance, and targeted resources to local communities and constituents to strategically pilot and implement innovative protocols. Provide technical assistance, upon request, to communities implementing strategic plans/protocols or coordinated community response solutions.

  • Network Leadership: Facilitate and provide leadership to the Georgia Murder-Suicide Response Network of mental health clinicians to coordinate services for survivors.

  • Stakeholder Relations: Establish and maintain professional, productive relationships with local community organizations and individuals to address community needs and assist survivors. Cultivate relationships with external partners to expand awareness and enhance statewide and local responsiveness consistent with project goals.

  • Data and Knowledge: Interact with key stakeholders to collect information and data on

    domestic violence-related murder-suicides in Georgia. Maintain current, comprehensive knowledge of statewide murder-suicide statistics and attend regular training to enhance subject-matter expertise.

     

     

Project Administration and Agency Support

  • Grant Support: Support grant administrative reporting activities and manage project deliverables promptly, coordinating with the executive director and supervisor.

  • Outreach & Promotion: Contribute content and support the agency’s social media and outreach initiatives to promote the project and support groups.

  • Agency-Wide Participation: Participate in coordinating the GCFV annual family violence conference, training seminars, and presentations. Assist with agency-wide initiatives, special projects, training, or other duties as assigned.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of work experience in direct domestic violence services in rural and/or urban settings. Experience should include working with domestic violence victims and may include responding to crisis calls, conducting outreach to victims, and completing client intake assessments. Clinical licensure will receive strong consideration.

  • Three or more years of experience facilitating training and/or presentations. Strong preference for experience in training on domestic violence or related topics.

  • Project management and/or grant writing/administration experience and/or certification.

  • Possess high proficiency in the following areas: coordinated community response engagement, victim advocacy, safety planning, trauma-informed and victim-centered practices, training coordination, and organization/record-keeping. 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 


 

Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of job-related experience; or two (2) years of experience at the lower level Social Svcs Prgm Coord 1 (SSP030) or position equivalent. Note: Some positions require eligibility for licensure.
