Job Description:

Under general supervision, performs random and complaint-based compliance inspections of businesses to ensure the business has workers’ compensation insurance coverage if required by statute to have said coverage. 

               

Performs security services for the State Board of Workers’ Compensation and its administrative courts. Investigates and documents security breach incidents, public disorder and other Board concerns, to include possible criminal arrest and prosecution for offenses. Performs criminal investigations on an as needed basis.

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Conducts compliance inspections of businesses to verify/enforce workers’ compensation insurance coverage if required by statute.

·         Independently plans and conducts compliance inspections in assigned geographical areas.

·         Must be able to travel the entire workday visiting businesses in assigned geographical area, with the exception of one office day per week.

·         Must be able to stay overnight in assigned geographical areas furthest from office a minimum of one night a month.

·         Conducts and documents random or complaint based, non-announced, face-to-face interviews with business owners and employees to determine number of employees employed by the business and compliance with the Workers’ Compensation laws.

·         Issues citations for failure to have workers’ compensation insurance coverage.

·         Prepares detailed investigative reports on businesses who fail to have required workers’ compensation insurance coverage.

·         The compliance investigator will communicate with the complainant to advise of the status of investigation if complainant is available.

  1. Presents detailed courtroom testimony when required in related compliance cases

·         When required to do so the compliance investigator will appear and testify in workers’ compensation administrative court to his/her findings regarding businesses who fail to have workers’ compensation insurance.

·         Maintains a professional appearance and utilizes proper courtroom demeanor while presenting testimony.

  1. As a POST Certified Law Enforcement Officer, performs security services for the State Board of Workers’ Compensation offices and administrative courts.

·         Performs security services to the Board and its administrative courts as needed.

·         Ensure the safety and security of Board staff by responding effectively to security incidents, breaches of security, or potential threats.

·         Conducts background investigations and interviews of suspects or witnesses.

·         Familiar with mechanics and requirements for arrest and obtaining arrest warrants in Georgia.

·         Ability to Collaborate with other authorities on activities such as surveillance, warrants, grand jury testimony, arrests, and prosecution of criminal cases.

·         Complies with the requirements as stated in the Enforcement Policy and Procedures Manual and the Compliance SOP Manual

·         Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision;

·         Such other duties as requested by the Division Director or Compliance Manager.

·         Experience in maintaining safety and order within the courtroom.

  1. Performs criminal investigations on an as needed basis

 

State Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, Georgia P.O.S.T. certification, and two (2) years of related experience; OR

  • Georgia P.O.S.T. certification and four (4) years of experience in law enforcement or related field; OR

  • Georgia P.O.S.T. certification and one (1) year of experience required at the lower level Criminal Investigator 2 (PSP091) or position equivalent; AND

  • Candidate must undergo a complete background investigation, including criminal and driving history inquiry and fingerprints; AND

  • Must have proficient computer skills to include a working knowledge of Windows 11 and internet searches;

  • Possess excellent communications skills, both written and oral;

  • Possess a reliable vehicle.  Use of personal vehicle is required as well as statewide travel and some overnight stays;

  • Must have available a home office that provides internet service;

  • Required to work from Macon office in assigned territory; And

  • Must live in a centrally located city in Southwest Georgia.

 

SBWC Preferred Qualifications: (if applicable)

Ø  Prior employment in the field of workers’ compensation insurance.

Ø  Prior employment in the field of insurance fraud.

Ø  Experience investigating insurance related criminal offenses

Ø  Current on all P.O.S.T. requirements

In accordance with Internal policy an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing.  Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion). In addition, an employee must have an overall e-Performance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation.  Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors.  Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
