OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

As a member of the Training and Professional Development Department and under the direct supervision of the Manager, this position will serve as the trainer to support professional development and learning activities. Training Specialist will be responsible for the facilitation, co-facilitation, preparation/review/revision of materials for various trainings and projects and will work in close collaboration with Human Resources/Talent Management, Health Informatics and other View Point Health departments/teams to determine training needs.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates staff learning opportunities through a variety of delivery methods including classroom instruction, virtual training, handouts/written tools, and presentations.
  •  Assists with coordination and facilitation of training for new employees onboarding which includes but is not limited, resolving email and phone inquiries, coordination of training schedules and associated materials (e.g., workbooks, handouts, etc.).
  • Provides ongoing training support and technical guidance for all electronic platforms (e.g., Relias, HR employee system) and all other training related needs for new and existing employees.
  • Monitors assigned and expired/expiring training certificates to maintain training records.
  • Collaborates with team to develop training aids such as manuals, presentations, and handouts.
  • Educates employees and supervisors about training options.
  • Serves as primary or lead trainer for assigned curriculums (e.g., CPI, Driver Improvement).
  • Track and report on training outcomes.
  • Provide feedback to program participants and management.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on training materials and methodology.
  • Collaborates with leadership on the strategic and training plans. 
  • Additional related duties as assigned.

 

Additional functions include:

  • Explore continued education, training, and learning opportunities using internal and external resources.
  • Participates in external meetings, agency committees, initiatives and/or special projects and tasks as assigned.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED AND Two (2) years of experience providing educational, training, or instructional services in functional area; or one (1) year of experience required at the lower level Training & Development /spec 1 (GSP120).

 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public health or behavioral health related field.
  • One to three (1-3) years of professional experience developing and facilitating training and/or providing education through instruction.
  • Experience in resources development of educational content and facilitation of presentations using multimedia and related training tools or software that support various types of learners. 

 

 

Requirements/Competencies:

  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds.
  • Requires long periods of sitting/standing.
  • Must have valid Georgia driver’s license and Motor Vehicle Record in accordance with company policy.
  • Candidates for selection must pass a criminal background check (including fingerprinting)

 

Note: Some positions may require a valid driver's license.
