OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Summary/Objective 

Under broad supervision, manages the functional/technical training strategy for the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency’s (GVRA) Vocational Rehabilitation program. Responsible for assessing, planning and/or coordinating training sessions and programs that will enhance the skills, educate, and expand the talents and competencies of the GVRA workforce. Performs end-to-end learning and development. Evaluates training and learning outcomes in relation to functional and/or technical training activities. Ensures standards are met for end-to-end learning and development. Designs, develops, and delivers training as needed.

  • Confers with management, supervisors, and employees to gain knowledge of work situations requiring training and to better understand changes in policies, procedures, regulations, business initiatives and technologies.
  • Coordinates training schedule with the hiring and training demands of the agency.
  • Formulates teaching outline and determines instructional methods such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings, and workshops.
  • Selects or develops teaching aids such as training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, and reference works.
  • Conducts training sessions covering specified areas such as new hire orientation, on-the-job training, refresher training, state-wide mandated compliance training, etc.
  • Performs annual training needs assessment and analyzes and develops yearly training plan to address GVRA training needs.
  • Develops an annual training budget.
  • Makes suggestions on improving work procedures.
  • Sources and maintains agency Learning Management System including staff training records.
  • Develops strong relationships with internal customers to develop course materials and receive feedback.
  • Performs oversight and evaluation of agency-wide programmatic training teams and makes recommendations to agency leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Experience in enterprise-wide training with a medium to large company.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position occasionally requires long hours and weekend work.

 

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

 

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

As a condition of employment with Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, you must successfully complete a mandatory federal and national background check, pre-employment testing, and additional checks required for your job.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in related field from and accredited college or university
  2. Five (5) years of experience in the planning, delivery, and assessment of education programs. 
  3. Five (5) or more years of experience working with a Learning Management System (LMS)
  4. Ability to manage projects, time, self, and other resources including prioritizing, planning, goal setting and preparing reports.
  5. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio. 
  6. Intermediate level proficiency with Survey Monkey, Articulate 360 (or similar eLearning software), Go-to-Webinar/Meeting and Skype. 

 

 

 

High school diploma/GED and one (1) year of management experience in area of assignment; or six (6) years of experience required in area of assignment which includes one (1) year in a lead worker, team leader, or supervisory role. Note: An equivalent combination of knowledge, education, job or intern experience, training, or certifications that provides the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted year-over-year.
