OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

DESCRIPTION: 

Georgia Piedmont Technical College is seeking a dynamic and dedicated full-time instructor to teach in the Surgical Technology program. The instructor will report to the Dean of Allied Health and will be responsible for providing high-quality classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction, contributing to curriculum development, and ensuring that students achieve both academic and clinical competency in accordance with CAAHEP/ARC/STSA standards. 

A flexible schedule is required, as classes and clinicals may be scheduled during the day, evening, or weekends. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Coordinate and oversee all aspects of the Surgical Technology program’s classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction to ensure alignment with CAAHEP/ARC/STSA standards. 

  • Lead clinical site coordination, including establishing, maintaining, and evaluating clinical affiliation agreements and serving as the primary liaison between the program and clinical partners. 

  • Support the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the Surgical Technology program, including curriculum development and student learning outcomes. 

  • Ensure program compliance with institutional, state, and accrediting body requirements. 

  • Monitor and track student academic progress, retention, clinical performance, and credentialing exam outcomes. 

  • Provide academic advising, mentorship, and career guidance to students. 

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate adjunct faculty and clinical preceptors. 

  • Collaborate with advisory committee members, faculty, and administration to align program outcomes with workforce needs. 

  • Manage day-to-day program operations as Interim Program Chair, including budget oversight, scheduling, accreditation preparation, and departmental reporting. 

  • Promote professional development, community outreach, and clinical site development to strengthen partnerships and program visibility. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Candidates must possess and demonstrate the following: 

  • Associate’s degree in Surgical Technology, Health Sciences, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution. 

  • Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential through NBSTSA. 

  • At least three (3) years of full-time operating room experience in the scrub role within the past five years. 

  • Minimum of two (2) years teaching experience in a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program. 

  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills. 

  • Current CPR certification. 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) by the American Heart Association 

  •  

  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Preference may be given to candidates who also possess: 

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare or related field.  

    • Experience with ARC/STSA and CAAHEP accreditation standards, reporting, and site visit preparation. 

    • Prior experience coordinating or supervising clinical education in an accredited program. 

    • CPR Instructor certification. 

    • Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Blackboard Ultra). 

    • Experience in curriculum design and instructional innovation. 

    • Strong record of building and maintaining partnerships with clinical affiliates. 

    • Familiarity with program budgeting and supervision of faculty and staff. 

 

Minimum qualifications for this position will be determined by the teaching discipline and compliance with appropriate accrediting bodies. Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the course assigned
