OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

The mission of the Georgia Department of Public Safety is to work cooperatively with all levels of government to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors to our state. Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Shifts for part-time Registered Nurses, when available:

1st shift - 7am-3:30pm

2nd shift - 3pm-11:30pm

3rd shift - 11pm-7:30am

Job Summary:
Assess client health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. 
Job Description:
  • Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled clients. May advise clients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management.  
  • Administers prescribed medications or starts intravenous fluids, and notes times and amounts on clients' charts. 
  • Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate client care plans. Maintains accurate, detailed reports and client records.  
  • Modifies client treatment plans as indicated by clients' responses and conditions. 
  • Monitors all aspects of client care, including diet and physical activity. 
  • Monitors, records and reports symptoms and changes in clients' conditions. 
  • Observes nurses and visits clients to ensure that proper nursing care is provided. 
  • Prepares clients for, and assists with, examinations and treatments.  Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and supplies, and ensures that stock of supplies is maintained. 
  • Provides education to client and family.
  • Provides health care, first aid, immunizations and assistance in convalescence and rehabilitation
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in Mental Health
  • Experience in Forensics 

*Additional Information - Selected applicant must meet the following standards: 

1.    Must pass a pre-employment background check (which includes criminal records check, driver's history, and verification of work history) and a post-hire federal background investigation.

2.    Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test and will be placed in the pool for the State Random Drug Testing Program.

3.    Eligible to work in the U.S.

4.    Able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
