OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

The mission of the Georgia Department of Public Safety is to work cooperatively with all levels of government to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors to our state. Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, Office of - OCI

Under direct supervision, the Purchase and Procurement Agent provides professional-level support in various procurement activities within the agency's Procurement section. This position reports to the Agency Procurement Officer and assists with ongoing category and vendor performance management.

Assists in ongoing vendor performance management.

Assists in developing solicitation documents such as Request for Quotes (RFQs) and Request for Proposals (RFPs).

Develops and applies an understanding of standard solicitation development tools and techniques.

Participates in the vendor response evaluation process.

Understands the variety and applicability of evaluation documents.

Utilizes tools to track and document spending and savings information in accordance with standard format.

Generates reports as requested.

Understands the fundamentals of developing and capturing best practices and lessons learned.

Documents best practices and lessons learned in accordance with established formats. 

Assists with procurement application projects as needed.

Adopts and utilizes new procurement application software, programs, and methodologies to support the strategic sourcing process including eRFP tools, State systems, and other electronic tools.

Develops and maintains professional knowledge of the procurement field.

Develops an understanding of and learns to apply the Georgia Procurement Manual (GPM) and related rules and regulations.

Develops an awareness and understanding of legal implications and possible complications. 

Performs other duties as assigned.

Associate degree in accounting or business, or a directly related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of job-related experience in a procurement environment; or Technical diploma in accounting or business and three (3) years of job-related experience in a procurement environment; or two (2) years of experience at the lower level Procurement Agent 1 (FEP020) or position equivalent. Note: Some positions require Georgia Procurement Manual area-specific certification(s).
