OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

The mission of the Georgia Department of Public Safety is to work cooperatively with all levels of government to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors to our state. Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Preferred Qualifications:

- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or closely related discipline.

- Three years' experience managing multiple capital improvement design and construction projects from inception to completion, including new construction and total or partial renovation of entire buildings systems and infrastructures.

- Three years' experience managing multiple major mechanical (HVAC), electrical, plumbing, fire alarm and sprinkler infrastructure repair or replacement construction projects.

- Three years' experience managing facility energy conservation projects and knowledge or utility consumption and cost analysis for electricity, water, wastewater, and natural gas systems.

- Well developed oral, written, analytical, organizational and prioritization skills. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

- Assess agency infrastructures and prioritize capital project needs for approximately thirty major correctional facilities and twenty-five other agency facilities located across Georgia.

- Develop capital project construction program needs and establish and manage budgets for design and construction.

- Procure and administer engineering services contracts for agency design and construction projects.

- Manage various types of construction contracts for multiple capital improvement projects simultaneously. - Coordinate involvement and contribution of multiple agency divisions and departments during the design and construction process.

 Comments/ Notes: - This position is based out of GDC headquarters in Lies Hall at State Offices South at Tift College in Forsyth, GA. - Job duties require statewide travel to manage construction projects within correctional facilities. Limited overnight travel may be required, but most are day trips.
