OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

The mission of the Georgia Department of Public Safety is to work cooperatively with all levels of government to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors to our state. Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. General Nature of Work

·     Provides home visiting services within the 14-county health district to identify, assess, and provide care coordination services to eligible perinatal patients and qualifying infants.

·     Identifies high-risk populations and tailors interventions based on the needs of the population and resources available.

·     Provides outstanding customer service and maintains HIPAA standards related to Privacy and Security.

·     Under broad supervision, provides professional nursing care in accordance with nurse protocols, policies and/or procedures. Promotes the program through community engagement and outreach events.

·     Provides referrals and linkages to appropriate services when medical and environmental risks are identified.

·     Must maintain CPR certification

·     Responds to Public Health Emergencies

 

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree/diploma in Nursing from an accredited college AND Current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license. (Please mail or bring a copy of your College Transcript or Diploma to the Interview—you must have an official transcript prior to the start date.) This position requires the ability to lift up to 45 lbs. and the ability to bend and reach up.

 

Preferred Qualifications

·        Bachelor’s OR Master’s degree in nursing, public health, or related field from an accredited college or university

·        Previous employment with any state’s Department of Public Health or a County Board of Health

·        Experience conducting home visits and patient home assessments

·        Experience with providing intervention services for high-risk newborns and infants

·        Experience with Case Management and Community Outreach

·        One or more years of Labor and Delivery experience

·        Bilingual (Spanish and English).

A State Merit Application for Employment must be submitted to this office by the deadline. Highlight any experience relevant to the preferred qualifications. This position may require driving company vehicles (a valid driver’s license is necessary) and working some evenings and weekends during special events such as health fairs and disaster responses. The selected applicant must consent to a motor vehicle record assessment. Points should be fewer than 10 and should not negatively impact insurance rates for the agency. A drug screening, criminal background check, and immunization records may be required. If selected, male applicants aged 18 to 26 must provide proof of Selective Service registration. Associate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and completion of a PHN course within one (1) year of hire and current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license and CPR certification.
