OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

The mission of the Georgia Department of Public Safety is to work cooperatively with all levels of government to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors to our state. Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters.   • This is temporary or hourly paid work performing professional health care services.
  • Positions in this job are established for less than 9 months or scheduled for less than 30 hours per week and are not eligible for benefits if the position status is temporary (i.e., SCOA 513).
  •  Positions in this job are established for greater than 9 months and scheduled for greater than 30 hours per week if the position status is permanent labor (i.e., SCOA 512).
  • This position can work up to 29 hours a week and is not eligible for benefits.

    Job Description:
  •  Assess client health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records.
  • Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled clients. May advise clients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management.
  • Administers prescribed medications or starts intravenous fluids, and notes times and amounts on clients' charts.
  • Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate client care plans.
  • Maintains accurate, detailed reports and client records.
  • Modifies client treatment plans as indicated by clients' responses and conditions.
  • Monitors all aspects of client care, including diet and physical activity.
  • Monitors, records and reports symptoms and changes in clients' conditions.
  • Observes nurses and visits clients to ensure that proper nursing care is provided.
  • Prepares clients for, and assists with, examinations and treatments.
  • Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and supplies, and ensures that stock of supplies is maintained.
  • Provides education to client and family.
  • Provides health care, first aid, immunizations and assistance in convalescence and rehabilitation

These RN positions are advertised for varied shifts, and are subject to HOLD-OVER.
 
A Hold-Over is the potential for an employee to need to remain on staff outside of their assigned shift to ensure core staffing requirements are maintained. This could potentially mean that an employee could be asked to work a additional hours on top of their regularly scheduled hours.  
FOR THIS TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT, STATE LAW REQUIRES A NATIONAL AND STATE BACKGROUND CHECK AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT. 
A current Georgia license to practice as a registered professional nurse

Minimum 1-2 years prior nursing experience.

Experience working with individuals with behavioral health disabilities.
