OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Part-Time Paramedic/EMT Professional Laboratory Assistant - Savannah/Hinesville

Savannah Technical College seeks a Part-time, Professional Labortory Assistant for the Paramedic/EMT program. The laboratory assistant will be responsible for setting up and breaking down of the skills lab. They will also observe students performing assigned psychomotor skills and evaluate their proficiency in order to develop the skills necessary to become employed in their chosen profession. This position will have duties at the Savannah and Hinesville campuses, and may require regular travel between Savannah Technical College campus locations. Duties include a flexible schedule, which may involve split teaching shifts. This position requires some supervision of students during skills practice.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of the instructional program through use of student data and practical skills evaluations.

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of current procedures in the Paramedic/EMT field and demonstrate the effective use of oral and written communication skills.

  • Follows approved course syllabus.

  • Monitors students' use of supplies, materials, and equipment, and ensures safety and security requirement are met in the laboratory/training area.

  • Assess equipment periodically and recommend appropriate modifications.

  • Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences.

  • Maintains qualifications for employment as described by the Technical College System of Georgia Policy Manual.

  • Follows rules and regulations as described by the Technical College System of Georgia and othet policies and procedures established by Savannah Technical College.

  • Provide students with supervision and direction while lab skills are being conducted and evaluated.

 

Qualifications

  • Must be currently certified as a Georgia AEMT or Paramedic.

  • Must have two years' work experience within the last 3 years as an AEMT or Paramedic and/or teaching.

  • Previous teaching experience preferred.

  • Must possess valid driver's license and required insurability.

  • Must possess skill in oral and written communication.

  • Must possess basic computer skills to include, but not limited to, word; excel; power point; and email.

  • Must possess excellent organizational skills.

  • Must possess excellent customer service skills to deal professionally with Savannah Tech employees, students, and visitors.

Physical Demands - Health Sciences - Job requires classroom and laboratory
Laboratory responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently
sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for three (3) - four ( 4) continuous hours at a time. The
employee frequently lifts/carries objects that weigh lOlbs. or less. Clinical responsibilities are typically performed in a
hospital, long term care facility, or other medical facilities, and require that the employee stand or walk for seven (7) -
eight (8) hours; bend, twist, push/and or pull for three (3) - four ( 4) hours; and occasionally lift 50lbs. to 75 lbs. per
rotation. The exposure to infectious diseases, gas, or fumes is possible during clinical rotations.

Salary is commensurate with education and work experience.
