OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. STATE PROFILE SUMMARY: Under general supervision, responsible for all aspects of various projects of a moderately complex nature. Responsible for assembling project team, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing schedule to ensure timely completion of project. Communicates with Program Managers and other managerial staff as needed. Assign work of subordinate staff. Will manage large numbers of agency staff or have large scope of responsibility within agency.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

·            Under general supervision and guidance of the Team Leader or higher-level project managers, serves as an entry level project manager for transportation infrastructure projects from scope development to project closeout.

·               Independently manages the scope, budget and schedule of assigned projects and ensures that the projects stay on schedule and remain within budget.

 

·             The workload of a Project Manager will consist primarily of less complex projects or project phases but may include other projects as required by unit workload of developmental purposes.

 

AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  •     A Bachelor’s degree AND Two years of related professional experience OR Associates degree AND Two years of related technical experience.(NOTE: To receive credit for related professional/technical experience, experience must be in the following fields: business management, architectural, commercial, construction project management, maintenance management, manufacturing management, design engineering, environmental of transportation planning, or civil engineering or transportation related experience).

 

  •     A basic knowledge of project management principles and practices.

 

  •     Ability to adapt to new and challenging situations while continually acquiring knowledge to improve skills.

 

  •     Ability to guide teams toward successful outcomes and attainment of organizational objectives; is self-motivated and results oriented.

 

  •    Ability to articulate ideas, thoughts and facts clearly, orally and in writing.

 

  •    Ability to resolve disputes among others effectively.

 

  •    Ability to work directly and effectively with people, groups and organizations, including understanding and meeting their needs while effectively communicating inherent limitations.

 

  •    Ability to facilitate positive dialogue among others with the goal of resolving differences and reaching compromises.

 

  •    Ability to identify and analyze various types of problems along with creating workable solutions · Requires statewide travel.

     

 

AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  •      Three or more years of experience in transportation projects in one or more of the following areas: construction project management, maintenance management, design engineering, environmental or transportation planning, civil-engineering or transportation-related experience.

 

  •     Three years of successful project management experience with a design, bid build program.

 

  •          Knowledge of Project Management Process.

 

  •    Possession of a Construction Industry Institute (CII), Certified Associate of Project Management (CAPM), or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

 

  •    Familiarity with related technological developments and be able to integrate new technology to manage and improve program effectiveness.

 

  •    Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

 

  •    Reacts to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently.

High school diploma/GED and two (2) years of professional level experience related to the area of assignment; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower level Project Mgr (Non-IT) 1 (GSP110).
