OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Job Vacancy Announcement: Mechanic 2/Garage-Fleet Services

Location: Department of Public Safety- Headquarters- Atlanta (Fulton County)

Pay Grade – G    

Job Code –FET061

Salary Range: $40,000-43,000.00

 

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the day-to-day operation of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVE). We currently have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Mechanic 2 in the Garage/Fleet Services of the Administrative Services Division.

DPS operates a full-service garage operation at its headquarters location in Atlanta. The Garage procures and outfits for use all Georgia State Patrol vehicles. Vehicle identification markings, blue lights, communications, and other specialized law enforcement equipment are installed by the Garage. Vehicle repairs are either handled in-house or contracted out to private sources. A parts department is maintained and the Garage handles vehicle surplus and a wrecker service.

This position is perfect for candidates who seek a challenging opportunity to serve the citizens of Georgia while providing critical support to the sworn officers within the department. This position will provide a challenging opportunity without compromising work/life balance and includes an excellent benefits package.

 

A typical workday includes, but is not limited to:

 

  • Evaluates condition and operability of equipment.

 

  • Inspects completed work for conformity to specifications.

 

  • Ensures that parts for installation or maintenance meet required standards.

 

  • Inspects and makes repair estimates for damaged vehicles and equipment from oil servicing to more major repairs.

 

  • Performs maintenance and repair to equipment, automobiles, trucks, and other engine driven equipment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with law enforcement vehicles.

High school diploma/GED and two (2) years of experience in the area of assignment; or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Mechanic 1 (FET060) or position equivalent. Note: Some positions may require specific licensure.
