OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN BIBB COUNTY, MACON, GA. THE SELECTED CANDIDATE MUST LIVE IN THE COUNTY, OR SURROUNDING AREA, OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE.

 

Job Description:

Under broad supervision, it manages large full-time, year-round state farmers' market that provides an outlet for the sale of products by farmers, retailers, and wholesalers.

1.    Provides directions to farmers in sale of produce to consumers.

2.    Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision.

3.    Serves as job expert or organization resource in assigned areas.

4.    Aids in the proper method of package of product and the uniformity and appearance of the package in a timely and efficient manner.

5.    Assists in formulating and administering market operations.

6.    Assists in public relations concerning produce.

7.    Assists wholesale and retail buyers in locating produce.

8.    Attends to grading stations, packing plants and on the farm sales.

9.    Conduct investigations and directs enforcement of all market rules and regulations to ensure market operates in orderly manner.

10. Conduct investigations and enforce established rules and regulations.

11. Manages leasing of market space.

12. Plans and directs promotional activities for market of fresh produce.

13. Plans and directs promotional activities; may assist at auction activities.

14. Provides an outlet for sale of produce by farmers, retailers, and wholesalers.

15. Provides assistance to farmers' market operations.

16. Report on trade conditions, weight and prices of livestock industry.

 

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

·         Basic computer skills, and function awareness.

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

·         2-3 years of administrative, secretarial support and office experience working with a state of GA government agency.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

1.    Experience working with State Farmers Markets.

2.    Experience with office management, procurement, scheduling, multi-line phone screening.

High school diploma/GED and four (4) years of experience in the area of assignment; or two (2) years of experience at the lower level Market Ops Spec 2 (RCT061) or position equivalent.
