OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for its Maintenance Technician (HVAC) position in the Facilities and Operations Division.  This position is located on Atlanta Technical College’s main campus, just South of Downtown Atlanta. 

 

Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician (HVAC) is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled work associated with the maintenance and repair of the college's facilities and grounds.

 

Job duties include but may not be limited to the following:

 

·        Installs, maintains, or repairs electrical systems and associated hardware.

·        Installs, maintains repairs and renovates plumbing hardware.

·        Assists with renovation projects as assigned.

·        Assists with carpentry projects.

·        Participates in the repair and maintenance of college equipment and vehicles.

·        Participates in ground maintenance activities, including installing and maintaining landscaping, and maintaining parking lots.

·        Uses and maintains a variety of tools, materials, and equipment.

·        Coordinates the work of maintenance and custodial staff as directed by supervisor.

·        Responds to emergency requests for repairs.

·        Assists with renovation projects as assigned.

·        Maintains required records and log; and

·        Performs other duties as assigned by the Facilities & Operations Leadership Team.

 

COMPETENCIES:

·       Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials and practices of building and grounds maintenance.

·       Knowledge of safety policies and procedures.

·       Knowledge of plumbing, electrical and HVAC system maintenance and repair.

·       Skills in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.

·       Skills in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.

·       Oral and written communication skills.

·       Ability to lift, push and carry heavy items.

·       Ability to read, interpret and apply construction plans, specifications and blueprints.

·       Decision-making and problem-solving skills.

·       Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Must possess and demonstrate an high school diploma or equivalent AND One (1) or more years of related work experience.

Preferred   Qualifications:

 

Preference may be considered for candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess and demonstrate the following:

 

·        Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university, AND

·        Two (2) or more years of experience as a Maintenance Technician.

·        HVAC Certification.
