OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. POSITION:    PART-TIME PRECISION MACHINING AND MANUFACTURING LAB ASSISTANT - Hall Campus  

REPORTS TO:   DEAN OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY

 

Job Description:

Lanier Technical College is accepting applications for a Precision Machining and Manufacturing Laboratory Assistant on the Hall County campus. The responsibility of this position is to maintain the PMMT labs and assist students as needed. Additional responsibilities may include performing general maintenance, housekeeping, and limited office tasks along with other duties as directed by the PMMT staff.  This is an hourly, part time, non-benefits eligible position.  Work schedule may be up to 29 hours per week and will occur during normal the operating hours of the campus. 

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Must be registered for the current term, and must meet satisfactory academic progress standards. 

·         Must have at least 2 years’ experience in the machining field.

·         Applicants should be neat in appearance and possess the ability to work well with others. 

·         Applicants must be dependable, punctual, and be able to work the required hours each week.

·         As with all LTC employees, a background investigation is required which may include, but is not limited to, a review and/or verification of criminal history records, motor/vehicle driver’s history records, employment history, references, etc.

Competencies:

·         Ability to assist with instructional materials, evaluating students’ progress in achieving instructional goals and objectives, ensuring safety and security requirements are met in the training area;

·         Skill to work and communicate cooperatively with students, faculty, and staff;

·         Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs;

·         Effective oral and written communication skills, decision-making and problem solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Knowledge of PMMT lab

·         Ability to repair and install equipment

·         Ability to lift 50 pounds
