OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Job Salary: $55,825.44

Job Specific Duties:

·         Handles HR support for assigned offices: recruitment, classification/compensation, employee relations, and onboarding.

·         Manages full-cycle recruiting from vacancy request through job offer to assigned HR offices 

·         Posts vacancies, screens applicants, schedules/interviews candidates, and supports selection packages

·         Conducts/coordinates new hire onboarding and orientation

·         Serves as primary HR contact for business units; partners with leaders on staffing needs and workforce planning

·         Advises on employee relations issues and performance expectations; ensures proper documentation

·         Updates and maintains job descriptions, summaries, and minimum qualifications

·         Collects market pay data and prepares classification/compensation reports

·         Oversees HR analyst activities such as job studies, classification reviews, salary surveys, and workforce planning efforts.

·         Ensures HR actions and position data align in PeopleSoft and required documentation is complete

·         Supports audits and maintains confidentiality

·         Provides/coordinates supervisor and employee training (onboarding, performance, difficult conversations, respectful workplace)

·         Communicates HR updates and supports rollout of HR initiatives

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications.

 

 

AGENCY SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources or a related degree AND Two years of PROFESSIONAL-level human resources experience OR Eight years of PROFESSIONAL level human resources experience. 

·         NOTE: The above-mentioned experience should include advertising and filling vacancies, workforce planning, succession planning, FLSA classifications, job analysis, and classification and compensation job studies.

·         Demonstrated professional level Human Resources experience performing duties in one or more of the following areas: Recruitment and Selection, Classification and/or Compensation or an HR Generalist.

·         Demonstrated experience communicating effectively with management, co-workers, and employees

·         Committed to providing excellent customer service

·         Demonstrated experience in making sound and well-informed decisions; perceiving the impact and implications of decisions

·         Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills; identifies and analyzes problems; gathers, interprets, and evaluates information to determine its accuracy and relevance; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives and recommend a solution.

·         Demonstrated ability to encourage and facilitate cooperation, pride, trust, and group identity

·         Demonstrated experience fostering commitment and team spirit

·         Demonstrated ability to persuade others to accept recommendations; work with others toward an agreement; negotiate to find mutually acceptable solutions.

·         Demonstrated experience in performing multiple tasks successfully

·         Displays a professional image and commitment to work.

 

 

AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Experience with government and department’s HR policies, processes, and practices

·         Experience using PeopleSoft HRMS or similar employee management software.

·         Experience using TGC (Team Georgia Careers) from posting requisitions thru job offer/closeout.

·         Professional experience in any HR related areas.

·         Demonstrated ability to perform in a fast-paced customer service-oriented environment

·         Demonstrated ability to create innovative solutions to streamline practices and procedures

·         Possess organizational skills with the ability to multi-task priorities

·         Possess strong facilitation and presentation skills

·         Ability to utilize tools, processes and communication in both print and digital

 

High school diploma/GED and two (2) years of job-related experience in human resources; or one (1) year of experience required at the lower level HR Spec 1 (HRP020) or position equivalent. Note: An equivalent combination of knowledge, education, job or intern experience, training, or certifications that provides the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted year-over-year.
