OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Grounds Maintenance Technician 2 - 165th AW/CES Garden City

This position is located at the Civil Engineer Squadron of the 165th Airlift Wing in Garden City, Georgia.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:


Under general supervision, performs multiple-types of grounds-related work, including mowing and edging, repairs to grounds maintenance equipment, and basic concrete pour and finishing work. Completes paperwork as required and follows all applicable safety rules and guidelines.

 

NOTE: The selected applicant will work outdoors in extreme temperatures and will be exposed to loud noises and fumes from herbicide application, gasoline, and two cycle engines. Manual labor required with heavy lifting of landscape materials, bending, digging, planting, pruning, lawn care, and herbicide application.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to those applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess any combination of the following:

 

  • Previous experience as a landscape gardener;
  • Experience operating equipment such as a kaboda, bobcat, backhoe, tractor/batwing mower;
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B;
  • 2 years of experience performing duties similar to those above;
  • Herbicide/Pesticide Applicator License/Certification 


Additional Information:


The selected applicant will also have following requirements:

 

1. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
2. Must pass a pre-employment drug test and will be placed in the pool for the State Random Drug Testing Program.

 

Selected applicant must pass a pre-employment background investigation, which includes a Georgia criminal records search, AND a post-employment federal background investigation, which includes a national criminal records search.
