OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Job Summary

The Georgia Academy for the Blind is recruiting a Grounds Maintenance Tech 2. The Grounds Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep, care, and maintenance of outdoor landscapes and grounds to ensure a clean, safe, and attractive environment.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Job Duties:

  • Mow lawns, trim edges, and perform seasonal landscaping tasks such as aerating, seeding, and fertilizing.
  • Prune trees, bushes, and shrubs to maintain appearance and promote healthy growth.
  • Plant, water, and maintain flower beds, trees, and other vegetation.
  • Operate and maintain landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and chainsaws.
  • Clean and maintain sidewalks, parking lots, outdoor furniture, and other exterior areas by removing trash, leaves, snow, and debris.
  • Inspect grounds regularly to identify and report hazards, damage, or pest problems.
  • ·Apply herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • ·Assist with minor repairs to outdoor fixtures such as fences, benches, and signs.
  • Support seasonal tasks such as snow removal, storm cleanup, and special event setup and takedown.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance staff and report to supervisors on work progress and issues.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including but not limited to frequent sitting, standing, and walking; frequent stooping, kneeling, bending, and crouching; frequent lifting or moving up to 25 lbs.; occasional lifting or moving up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

  •  At least one year of experience as a groundskeeper for a commercial or residential facility or facilities.
  • Knowledge of motor vehicle and small engine repair.
  • Experience with commercial lawn mowing equipment.

High school diploma/GED and three (3) years of job-related experience; or Internal experience at a lower level Facility Maintenance Wkr 3 (FES052) or Grounds Maintenance Tech 1 (FET071) or position equivalent.
