OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Full-Time Nursing Instructor - Simulation Nurse Educator

Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for the Full-Time Nursing Instructor (Simulation Nurse Educator) in the Health and Public Safety Technology division, of the Academic and Student Affairs division.  This position is located on Atlanta Technical College’s Main campus, just South of Downtown Atlanta. 

 

Under general supervision of the Associate Dean of Nursing & Related Programs, the Full-Time Nursing Instructor (Simulation Nurse Educator) position requires passion, demonstrated by experience, for effective teaching and advisement of diverse students.  The Simulation Nurse Educator/Nursing Instructor plays a vital role in advancing high-quality, simulation-based education within the Atlanta Technical College Nursing Program. This position supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative educational programming, fostering a realistic, state-of-the-art learning environment that enhances clinical competence and patient safety.

 

 

Job duties include, but may not be limited to, the following:

 

·       Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programming in the Nursing Department at Atlanta Technical College and ensure high quality simulation-based education through the creation of a realistic state-of-the art learning environment.

·       Conduct simulation scenarios and debriefing sessions working with faculty and the Associate Dean of Nursing to provide short-term and long-range comprehensive strategic and operational planning in support of simulation education.

·       Assist with program development and ensure adherence to program policies, course objectives, program outcomes, data collection and reporting and current simulation best practice safety measures and contributes to local and national research projects.

·       Actively participate in curriculum meetings for the integration of simulation experiences in meeting courses and program objectives and outcomes.

·       Promote a collaborative and team-based approach to simulation education.

·       Responsibilities include teaching in the Simulation and Skills Lab.

·       Maintain classrooms and laboratories in accordance with approved classroom and lab management plans.

·       Attend meetings as required.

·       Observe and enforce the institution’s policies and regulations.

·       Assist with student recruitment and job placement.

·       Serve on committees.

·       Maintain qualifications for employment as described by the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and accreditation standards.

·       Follow rules and regulations as described by the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and other policies and procedures established by the institution.

·       Assist in the development of reports and other requirements for the Georgia Board of Nursing.

·       Perform additional duties, as assigned

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Must possess and demonstrate the following:

 

·        Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college or university.

·        Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Ga.

·        Three (3) years of strong clinical experience in acute patient care, OB, Pediatrics, Medical-Surgical, and/or emergency or trauma conditions.

·        Current American Heart Association BLS provider.

·        Five (5) years of clinical nursing experience.

 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

Preference may be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess and demonstrate the following:

 

 

·       Doctoral Degree in Nursing or Education (PhD, DNP, EdD) from an accredited college or university.

·       Credentials, education and four (4) or more years of full-time work experience in medical surgical nursing, acute patient care, OB, pediatrics, or emergency.

·       Minimum of one (1) year full-time teaching in an Associate Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.

  • Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS provider.

 

** Please Note: This is a 40-hour per week position which may include weekend, holiday and evening schedules. **
