OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

The mission of the Georgia Department of Public Safety is to work cooperatively with all levels of government to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors to our state. Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. In all of our endeavors, DPS personnel will remain committed to following our core beliefs of trust, fortitude, compassion, and professionalism.

HOURS: 6:00AM-2:00PM. 

  • Under broad supervision, guards, patrols, or monitors premises, facilities and other areas to prevent theft, violence, and infractions of rules. Secures and protects facility in case of fires, natural disasters, or other hazardous events.
  • May serve as lead worker. Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision. 
  • Serves as job expert or organization resource in assigned areas. Answers alarms and investigates disturbances.
  • Assists in developing security staffing, shift and contingency plans for facility. Coordinates operational plans with other law enforcement agencies.
  • Escorts or drives motor vehicle to transport individuals to specified locations and to provide personal protection. Inspects assigned area for fire or environmental hazards.
  • Monitors and authorizes entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against and maintain security of premises. Patrols premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates. Responds to fires, natural disasters, or other hazardous events.
  • Warns persons of rule infractions or violations, and apprehends or evicts violators from premises, using force if necessary. Writes reports of daily activities and irregularities

Previous security experience, supervisory, and scheduling experience preferred. 

High school diploma/GED and two (2) years of job-related experience; or one (1) year of experience required at the lower level Facility Security Officer 2 (PST051) or position equivalent. Note: Some positions may require Georgia P.O.S.T. certification. Note: Some positions may require area specific certifications or eligibility.
