OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the day-to-day operation of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). The mission of the Department is to work cooperatively with all levels of government to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors to our state.

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Deputy Director of Facilities to oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of our facilities. The Deputy Director of Facilities will be responsible for assisting the Director in maintaining and improving the physical environment in which our employees and customers operate. This role will ensure that all buildings and infrastructure are safe, functional, and aligned with the department’s operational goals.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilities Management: Oversee the maintenance, repair, and operation of all department facilities, including buildings, equipment, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical, and security systems.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage the facilities department budget, ensuring cost-effective solutions for repairs, maintenance, and improvements.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure that all facilities comply with health and safety regulations and building codes and maintain a safe working environment for employees and visitors.
  • Vendor Management: Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with external vendors, contractors, and service providers related to facility maintenance, cleaning, security, and other services.
  • Space Planning and Utilization: Manage space planning and allocation, ensuring optimal use of office space, meeting rooms, and common areas.
  • Sustainability Initiatives: Lead efforts to promote energy efficiency, sustainability, and environmentally friendly practices within the facilities.
  • Emergency Response and Business Continuity: Develop and implement emergency procedures for facilities-related issues, such as power outages, natural disasters, or fire safety, to ensure business continuity.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, supervise, and develop a team of facility staff, including maintenance personnel and custodial workers. Conduct performance reviews and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Capital Improvement Projects: Oversee and manage capital improvement projects, including renovations, office relocations, and facility expansions. Ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required specifications.
  • Reporting: Regularly report to senior management on facility performance, issues, and improvement initiatives. Provide recommendations for cost-saving measures and process improvements.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Four (4) or more years of experience managing employees who perform facility planning, construction, maintenance, or repair work.
  2. Previous experience in construction and knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical, and security systems.
  3. Five (5) years of experience in facilities or property management.
  4. Two (2) years of experience at the lower-level Sr Mgr, Facilities position equivalent.

Associate Vocational/Technical degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of facilities management experience; or four (4) years of experience in facilities or property management; or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Mgr, Facilities (FEM020) or position equivalent.
