OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. The position is open to all applicants that meet the minimum qualifications below.

 

The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) is currently seeking highly qualified applicants to be considered for their full-time Disabled Veterans Outreach Program (DVOP) Specialist position(s) within the Office of Workforce Development (OWD) in the DeKalb Career Center. The Disabled Veterans Outreach Program (DVOP) Specialist is a key member of the WorkSource Georgia employment services team, working directly with veterans and other eligible persons by providing individualized career services to help them reach their employment goals.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Provide services which include, but are not limited to, comprehensive assessment interviews, career guidance, individual employment plans, labor market information, and staff-assisted job search activities.

·         Develop, coordinate, and/or facilitate workshops and presentations to applicants on job readiness or the most current job search techniques, as well as demonstrates the use of job listings to assist clients with exploring available training and employment opportunities.

·         Identify and evaluate barriers, exploring solutions to assist in removing such barriers, while facilitating and referring customers to appropriate supportive services to promote self- sufficiency and employment.

·         Perform job counseling with applicants to identify their abilities, needs, interests, and values in relation to job opportunities and career goals by utilizing a variety of assessments and evaluation tools.

·         Render career development and assessment services to clients for the purpose of matching their application skill sets to vacancies, in order to job match or provide job referrals.

·         Conduct outreach with local veteran and community-based organizations, and educational institutions to ensure maximum assistance is available to veterans served, which will also require travel to remote locations to provide direct assistance to veteran customers.

·         Responsible for consulting and coordinating with various representatives from federal, state, and local programs and employers to promote the development of entry-level and career job opportunities, job training, apprenticeships, and vocational counseling services for veterans.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·         Candidate must be a qualified, eligible veteran.*

·         Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university; OR Associate’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university -and- two years of related experience; OR four years of related experience; OR two years of experience at the lower-level Employment Services Specialist or position equivalent.

 

*Applicants must provide proof of being a qualified veteran. Please attach a copy of your DD-214 and Disability Rating Certificate from the Veterans Administration, if applicable, that is dated within six months from the date of applying for the position. Applicants who fail to submit the appropriate supporting documentation (DD-214 and Disability Rating Certificate) will be required to provide these documents, if selected to interview for the position.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

·         Knowledge of the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA), related Wagner-Peyser (WP) Act, or the Jobs for Veterans State Grant (JVSG) program.

·         Two years of experience serving special needs population with Significant Barriers to Employment.

·         Two years of experience delivering Case Management services.

·         Experience with delivery of Employment Services.

·         Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

·         Experience delivering presentations in groups.

·         Knowledge of state and federal regulations.
