OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Salary Range: $55,000 - $67,287.20

 

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the day-to-day operation of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police, and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVE). The mission of the Department is to work cooperatively with all levels of government to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors to our state.

DPS is currently accepting applications for the rewarding and challenging position of Data Analyst.  

We are seeking to fill two positions to ensure the continued accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of all DataQ challenges processed each month and support the growing data analytics needs for the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) program.

 

 

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, conducts advanced data quality reviews of commercial motor vehicle (CMV) inspection reports and CMV-involved crash reports. Performs statistical and operational data analysis to support Commercial Vehicle Enforcement’s (CVE) data-driven enforcement initiatives. The CVE Data Analyst will have a primary specialization in either DataQ Operations or CMV Crash Data Analysis, while also being cross trained to provide support across both mission areas as needed.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review and validate CMV-involved crash reports for FMCSA reportability.
  • Monitor trends through crash data analysis.
  • Process monthly DataQs submissions
  • Support Georgia’s State Safety Data Quality (SSDQ) efforts.
  • Track MCSAP performance metrics, including inspections, out-of-service rates, and violations.
  • Support operations and federal reporting using advanced platforms such as:
    • SafeSpect
    • Georgia Report Incident Dashboard (GRID)
    • FMCSA’s Analysis & Information Online (A&I)
  • Maintain various CMV internal crash reporting repositories.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with FMCSA systems such as MCMIS, A&I, and SafeSpect
  • Familiarity with DataQ processing
  • Knowledge of commercial vehicle crash reporting standards
  • Experience in a regulatory, enforcement, or government data analysis environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in reading, interpreting, and analyzing data.
  • Must be North American Standard (NAS) certified in both Part A and B, as well as General Hazmat and Cargo Tank, or successfully complete these certifications at the first available offering.

Associate degree in business or related field from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of experience related to area of assignment.
