OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

The mission of the Georgia Department of Public Safety is to work cooperatively with all levels of government to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors to our state. Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Air Conditioning Adjunct Instructor

DESCRIPTION: 

This position requires teaching responsibilities for credit courses within the Air Conditioning Technology program. Instruction will include both lecture and laboratory activities and may involve Hybrid classes. The instructor will report to the Division Chair of Industrial Technologies and Professional Services. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

The instructor must possess the ability to:  

  • Teach all phases of the Air Conditioning curriculum  

  • Additional duties include developing instructional materials  

  • Evaluating students’ progress in achieving instructional goals and objectives  

  • Ensuring safety and security requirements are met in the training area   

  • Provide professional instruction based on approved course syllabus  

  • Prepare curriculum for coursework taught   

  • Operate and maintain instructional equipment and trainers   

  • Deliver training by lecture, hands on, computer multi-media, online and text  

  • Maintain program certification requirements 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Associates degree from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university in Air Conditioning or a closely related field.  

AND 

Five of the last seven years of work experience in HVAC or a closely related field. 

Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills. A flexible work schedule is necessary, as classes will be taught during the day and evening. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

A bachelor's degree is desirable.  

A low voltage contractor’s license is desirable.  

Experience in teaching/advising/mentoring college-level students with broad, diverse backgrounds is also desired.  

Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills. A flexible work schedule is necessary, as classes will be taught during the day and evening. 

 

Minimum qualifications for this position will be determined by the teaching discipline and compliance with appropriate accrediting bodies. Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the course assigned.
