OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

The mission of the Georgia Department of Public Safety is to work cooperatively with all levels of government to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors to our state. Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) i seeking to hire an administrative support professional for the Southwest District Office located in Albany, GA. The administrative support professional will need to be flexible, dynamic, and willing to cross train on duties and responsibilities that are critical for the Southwest District and be willing to take on new assignments regularly with enthusiasm. The individual selected for this position must be detailed orientated and have excellent communication, organizational, and customer services skills, as well as strong computer skills. Under general supervision, performs a wide range of office administration duties for assigned functions or program areas, duties may be complex in nature and may involve access to confidential information. May research, investigate, and/or resolve program data or issues. Drafts documentation, reports, or presentations. Represents program or unit, provides information and assistance to internal and external customers. Provides administrative support to assigned area. Provides assistance and problem resolution to claimants, employers, staff, other agencies, and/or the general public. Provides program, administrative, and/or technical assistance and interpretation Researches and resolves detailed program or client issues/questions and prepares documents. Provides program, administrative, and/or technical assistance to customers and staff Research and/or resolves program or client issues or questions May represent the manager in various matters. Supports routine administrative functions for the agency/office, such as travel expenses, car rentals, leases, vendors, contracts, telecommunications, building security, purchasing, billing/credit, inventory, property control, personnel, payroll, and etc. 

Preferences may be given to individuals with: 

*Familiarity with EPD District Functions

*Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications, including Word, Excel, Teams

*Ability to type 40 words per minute or more.

*Excellent communication skills including writing, speaking, editing and proofreading, and phone presence

*Experience providing professional level administrative support for senior - and/or mid-level managers. 

*Familiarity with State of Georgia Government or other government organizations.

 

High school diploma/GED and three (3) years of job-related experience; or one (1) year of experience required at the lower level Admin Assistant 1 (GST050) or position equivalent. .
