OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for its Adjunct Instructor (Culinary Arts) position in the Business & Public Service Technology within the Academic & Student Affairs division.  This position is located on Atlanta Tech's main campus, just South of Downtown Atlanta. 

 

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

 

Under general supervision of the Dean of Business & Public Service Technologies and the Culinary Arts Chair, the Adjunct Instructor (Culinary Arts) provides instruction for credited culinary arts core course syllabus; ensuring the outcomes meet the stated objectives.  This is a part-time position, up to twenty-nine (29) hours per week, and it requires utilizing techniques that facilitate adult learning styles and demonstrates varying techniques.

 

·        Demonstrated ability to effectively use instructional technologies with excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills.

·        Willingness to adopt and teach new and emerging technologies and commitment to meeting the needs of and providing instruction to multi-cultural populations that support diversity, cultural understanding and inclusion.

·        Demonstrated ability to teach savory food preparation and a ho1tistic food presentation, including fruit/vegetable/starch preparation, garde manger, meat, seafood andpoult1y fabrication, stock, soup and sauce preparation, international cuisine, regional American cuisine, and advanced blading and pastry preparation, including artisan breads, pastry components, wedding cakes, and chocolate candies and other confections.

·        Demonstrated ability to integrate nutrition, food safety and cost control into instruction.

·        Demonstrated ability in HACCP and environmental hygiene.

·        . Demonstrated knowledge of current procedures in the Culinary Arts field.

·        Follow approved course syllabus.

·        Monitor students’ use of supplies, materials, and equipment.

·        Advising and counseling students and maintaining appropriate advisement records on each student classroom and laboratories.

·        Attend meetings as required and appropriate.

·        Observe and enforce institution’s policies and regulations.

·        Assist with student recruitment and job placements directed by the division chair.

·        Serve on committees as directed and coordinated by the division chair; and

·        Perform additional duties, as assigned.

 

 

Competencies:

 

·       Skill in developing lesson outlines and materials.

·       Knowledge of vocational area of assignment.

·       Skill in presenting subject matter.

·       Skill in administering tests to evaluate progress.

·       Skill in the use of computers and job-related software programs.

·       Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with adult learners.

·       Oral and written communication skills.

·       Knowledge of student information systems.

 

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

Must possess and demonstrate the following:

 

·       Associate's degree in culinary arts from an accredited college or university with demonstrated competency in teaching field.

·       Five (5) years of related occupational experience as a Sous Chef or higher, overseeing at least six (6) or more employees, within the last ten (10) years.

·       Must have current SERV Safe Certification.

 

 

 

Preferred Requirements:

 

 

Preferences may be given to candidates who in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications possess and demonstrate the following:

·       Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Culinary Arts from an accredited college or university with demonstrated competency in teaching field.

·       Seven (7) or more years of demonstrated work experience in the Culinary Arts profession within the past ten (10) years

·       Previous teaching experience

·       Certified Culinary Educator (CCE)-ACF

·       Certified Secondary Culinary Educator (CSCE)-ACF

·       Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE)-AHLEI

·       State-recognized teaching credential or postsecondary Instructor certification
