OVERVIEW

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) employs approximately 1600 employees and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). GSP troopers investigate traffic crashes and enforce traffic and criminal laws on the state's roads. Capitol Police officers prevent and detect criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. MCCD officers conduct safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspect highway shipments of hazardous materials.

Although focused primarily on the enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic crashes, the Department of Public Safety will support the efforts of all public safety agencies to reduce crime, apprehend those who commit them, and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Adjunct Instructor - Civil Engineering

Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic candidate for its Adjunct Civil Engineering Instructor (Part-Time) position in the Industrial and Transportation Technology department of the Academic & Student Affairs Division.  This position is located on Atlanta Technical College’s Main campus, just South of downtown Atlanta, Ga.  

 

Under general supervision of the Dean of Industrial and Transportation Technologies, the Adjunct Civil Engineering Instructor will be a part-time (adjunct) faculty member that teaches in the Civil Engineering program. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and a commitment to helping students develop essential computer skills.  This position involves creating and delivering engaging lessons, assessing student progress, and contributing to the overall success of the students.  Adjunct faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions of employment appointed on a per academic term basis.

 

Duties and responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:

 

  • Prepare lesson plans for classroom instruction for credited technical/ occupational courses.
  • Develop program and course outlines, goals, and objectives.
  • Conduct classroom and lab instruction.
  • May facilitate field trips and other supplemental learning experiences.
  • Ensure safety and security requirements are met in the training area.
  • Assist with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts.

·       Provide student advisement.

  • Complete no-show reporting in a timely manner.

·       Report grades in a timely manner.

  • Attend meetings, and perform other duties of service to the college and academic program; and
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

·        Problem solving/critical thinking skills.

·        Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills. organization and planning skills.

·        Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Must possess and demonstrate the following:

  • Masters degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of directly related work experience.
  • Prior teaching experience in computer literacy or related subjects. Experience in a technical college setting is a plus.
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
