What will you do?
As a Tax Examiner 1, you will work in a fast-paced customer service office environment addressing taxpayers’ issues verbally and utilizing customary written correspondences to expedite resolution. The environment is set on meeting daily production standards that range depending on tax type and complexity. Daily tasks will require work in Georgia Department of Revenue Integrated Tax System (ITS). Also, daily tasks will require use of an automated call distribution system (InContact).

Which qualifications are required?
Associate's degree in accounting or related area from an accredited college or university
OR
One year of related experience
Core Duties:
· Determines and verifies taxpayer's registration and filing compliance for all tax types, ensuring compliance with all applicable tax laws. Enters all notes into ITS following the established format and timeline designated by management
· Maintains the level of skills and job knowledge necessary to make and process valid penalty waivers. Creates and completes penalty waiver case, attaches PW requests/documents to case as appropriate, and adheres to Compliance Division Orders regarding Penalty & Interest Waivers.
· Promptly responds to taxpayer inquiries (phone calls/emails/other correspondence) within 24-48 hours by providing the necessary information to office personnel or external customers in a timely manner. Follow up with a return call to ensure the issue is resolved. Maintains a professional and courteous demeanor with all customers in an effort to meet the Department’s mission of customer service excellence.
· Customer Service:
o Assist taxpayers with GTC account creation, navigation, and with filing returns/making payments through GTC and/or in-person/by paper.
o Research regulations for various tax types, guide the taxpayer through the necessary regulation, and educate the taxpayer.
o Effectively present information in a clear and concise manner orally and in writing to ensure the taxpayers understands.
o Honor all of the State’s commitments to customers by providing helpful, courteous, accessible, responsive, and knowledgeable service.

· Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly, effectively and accurately to convey and ensure the message is understood (telephone, face to face).
The Preferred – Candidates possessing one or a combination of the following criteria may receive primary consideration:
· Ability to read and interpret laws, policies, rules, and regulations pertaining to alcoholic beverages and tobacco products and related enforcement/compliance activities
· Two-year customer service experience
· Experience working with DOR Integrated Tax System
· Accounting or bookkeeping experience
· The ability to research and make work adjustments based on changing regulations
This is a hybrid position. The Tax Examiner 1 position will operate out of the assigned office and have the ability to telework. Department of Revenue also conducts an MVR Check, a criminal background check and State of Georgia tax records check is conducted on all new hires. You are required to have filed a State of Georgia tax return for the past five years.
