POSITION:                    Director of Distance Education  

                                                                                                    

REPORTS TO:             Vice President for Academic Affairs

 

SALARY:                       Low $70’s annually, depending on education, experience, and qualifications

 

EFFECTIVE:                This position is available now

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Distance Education is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supporting distance education. The position is charged with the strategic planning, development, implementation, and delivery oversight of eLearning initiatives at our College.

 

Major Duties

Technical Support:

·       Serves as primary point of contact (POC) for servicing the Learning Management System (LMS) for the College.

·       Provides technical support/assistance to all faculty and students who use the College’s LMS.

·       Adds and maintains system administrator accounts to college Bb rosters.   Performs operations to ensure that all courses, instructors, and students are within the LMS.

·       Conducts End of Semester maintenance: Coordinates with Georgia Online Learning & Development (GOLD) to make courses available in Blackboard for students with final grades of Incomplete.

·       Oversees training and orientation on the LMS to faculty and students. Provides training opportunities for instructors in the use and support of distance learning applications and software.

·       Ensures all updates to the course management system are implemented in an organized and timely manner to minimize any negative impact on faculty and students.

Supervision/Interface:

·       Manages and oversees the work of the staff assigned to the Distance Education department.

·       Plans and manages the departmental budget.

·       Develops and implements strategies in support of distance learning.

·       Serves as the liaison for eCampus.

·       Coordinates with GOLD on any distance learning technological or educational needs and goals.

·       Prepares and distributes information for instructors and students on distance learning resources.

·       Serves as ex-officio member of the College’s faculty-led Distance Education Committee.

Data Management/Quality Assurance:

·       Produces and analyzes reports and helps interpret data reports pulled from the LMS. Assists in decisions made based on these data analytics.

·       Works with faculty to ensure the college’s online courses adhere to the quality assurance of best practices, institutional requirements, SACS-COC standards, ADA compliance.

·       Provides technical resources for instructors and students on course management.

·       Researches and works with GOLD on issues pertaining to distance education and helps identify promising practices.

Professional Development:

·       Stays abreast of distance learning and instructional design advancements and trends and investigates new distance education technologies to determine appropriateness for the needs of the college.

·       Attends meetings and training sessions as required to maintain knowledge of advances in technology.

·       Monitors the GOLD website and list serve for important information and training updates.

·       Attends peer group conferences and webinars to remain current on both instructional techniques and technology.

·       Other work related duties as assigned by Supervisor.

 

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

·       Ability to travel to any LTC College Campus

·       Knowledge of the mission of postsecondary vocational/technical education;

·       Proficiency in the operation of computers and job-related software programs;

·       Understanding of the functionality of Learning Management Systems;

·       Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public;

·       Excellent oral and written communication skills;

·       Effective decision making and problem-solving skills;

·       Ability to collaborate and build strong, effective working relationships across departments;

·       Ability to motivate, train, and develop a high performing staff within a team-oriented, collaborative environment;

·       Ability to adjust work hours based on the needs of the College.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution;
  • 3 years of related work experience that includes providing online instruction and support for online instruction.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to minimum and competencies):

·        Advanced degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution.

·        Experience with Blackboard Ultra

 

State of GA benefits include: A choice of retirement plans (Georgia State Employees’ Pension and Savings Plan or Teachers’ Retirement System), health and flexible benefits insurance options, sick leave and annual leave accruals (10 hours each on a monthly basis), and 13 state holidays.
