Job Summary

Make a meaningful difference in the lives of youth under the care of the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ). As a Juvenile Correctional Captain, you will lead staff in fostering a safe, secure, and rehabilitative environment within our facilities. This role requires strong leadership to guide and support youth through positive behavior reinforcement while ensuring compliance with department policies and procedures. You will oversee staff, manage facility operations, and uphold safety and security protocols to help youth reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the custody, security, and care of youth by adhering to DJJ policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Oversee staff and youth transfers between facilities, ensuring proper coordination and safety.
  • Maintain order and discipline through active supervision and by addressing inappropriate behavior effectively.
  • Provide structure and guidance to youth, emphasizing safety, rehabilitation, and respectful conduct.
  • Supervise and support assigned staff, ensuring adherence to all departmental standards and expectations.
  • Manage human resources and administrative responsibilities for subordinate staff; implement emergency procedures as required.
  • Monitor staff handling of contraband, youth activity coordination, and head count procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and policies for the safety and security of both youth and staff.
  • Lead contraband searches and inspections, and maintain control of security-related logs, keys, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of all facility rules and procedures and ensure consistent enforcement.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED AND
    • Two (2) years of supervisory experience in law enforcement OR
    • One (1) year of experience as a Juvenile Correctional Lieutenant (PSP224) or equivalent
  • Must possess and maintain Georgia P.O.S.T. Certification within the first six (6) months of employment
  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License required
Military Service Incentive Pay

Eligible applicants may receive a salary increase based on active-duty U.S. military service:

  • 2.5% increase for 1 year of service
  • 5% increase for 2 years of service
  • 7.5% increase for 3 years of service
  • 10% increase for 4+ years of service
