Job Description

Under general supervision, performs random and complaint-based compliance inspections of businesses

to ensure the business has workers’ compensation insurance coverage if required by statute to have

said coverage.  Conducts administrative investigations for civil compliance of other workers’

compensation statutes and rules.  Compliance Investigators are non-sworn.

 

Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards

1.     Conducts compliance inspections of businesses to ensure workers’ compensation insurance coverage if required by statute.

A.    Independently plans and conducts compliance inspections in assigned geographical area.

B.    Must be able to travel the entire workday visiting businesses in assigned geographical area, with the exception of one office day per week.

C.     Must be able to stay overnight in assigned geographical areas furthest from office a minimum of one night a month.

D.    Conducts and documents random or complaint based, non-announced and face-to-face interviews with business owners and employees to determine number of individuals employed by the business and compliance with the Workers’ Compensation laws.

E.    Issues citations for failure to have workers’ compensation insurance coverage.

F.     Prepares detailed investigative reports on businesses who fail to have required workers’ compensation insurance coverage.

2.     Conducts surveillance.

A.    Performs surveillance when required according to Division policy and procedures.

3.     Presents detailed courtroom testimony.

A.    When required to do so the compliance investigator will appear and testify in workers’ compensation

administrative court to his/her findings regarding businesses who fail to have workers’ compensation insurance.

B.    Maintains a professional appearance and utilizes proper courtroom demeanor while presenting testimony.

C.     Assists Division attorneys in preparation for court presentation of cases.

4.    Conducts compliance inspections based upon complaints received from outside sources.

A.    Within two weeks of receipt of a complaint, the compliance investigator will investigate the complaint to determine if the business is required to have workers’ compensation insurance.

B.    If the business is required to have insurance coverage and fails to do so, then a citation will be issued.

C.     The compliance investigator will communicate with the complainant to advise of the status of investigation if complainant is available.

5.    Maintains professional knowledge of current trends and developments which relate to work unit assignments while applying knowledge and skill in the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.

A.    Participates in seminars and professional meetings when available.

B.    Maintains professional knowledge by reading up to date articles and books.

C.     Applies pertinent new knowledge and skills toward the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Possess a high school diploma.

Possess excellent communications skills, both written and oral.

Possess a valid Georgia driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Possess a reliable vehicle.  Use of personal vehicle is required as well as statewide travel and some overnight stays.

Must consent to be fingerprinted for purpose of a criminal background history.

Must have available a home office that provides internet service.

Required to work from Macon office and in assigned territory.

Must have proficient computer skills to include a working knowledge of “Windows 10”.

Must live in a centrally located city in Southwest Georgia.

Associate degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of directly related experience, which include two (2) years in a supervisory role; or five (5) years of directly related experience in the area of assignment, which include two (2) years in a supervisory role; or one (1) year of experience required at the lower level Compliance Investigator 2 (PSP081) or position equivalent. Note: Some positions may require a valid driver's license. Note: Some positions may require P.O.S.T. certification or eligibility.
