The Georgia Department of Revenue—the state’s primary tax collection agency—is seeking motivated candidates for the Entry Level Auditor/Examiner 1 position. This role offers the opportunity to support Georgia’s taxpayers, strengthen compliance, and contribute to a mission-driven organization dedicated to fairness, efficiency, and exceptional customer service. This position is a Motor Fuel position that will be responsible for auditing for International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) and for International Registration Plan (IRP).

Expected Salary: $52,000

Department: Miscellaneous & Excise Motor Fuel Audit Tax Group

Position Status: Unclassified | Pay Grade I

Work Model: (office + possibility of telework)

About the Role

As an Auditor/Examiner 1, you will examine and analyze accounting records to determine the financial condition or tax compliance of assigned organizations or programs.

Core Duties

  • Prepare financial reports concerning operating procedures
  • Correspond with taxpayers, representatives, banking institutions, and court offices via mail, phone, or in person

 

Minimum Entry Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in business administration or a related field from an accredited college or university

OR

Three (3) years of professional job-related experience

 

Position-Specific Qualifications

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree or higher in Business Administration, Accounting, or a closely related field, including a minimum of 4 accounting classes (12 hours).

Applicants MUST attach a copy of college transcripts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Good knowledge of accounting and taxation practices
  • One year of tax auditing experience in various tax fields
  • One year of general accounting experience
  • One year of tax preparation experience

 

Additional Position Details

  • Work model: Based out of assigned office, with the possibility of teleworking, after training
  • MVR check required
  • Criminal background check and Georgia tax records check required
  • Must have filed Georgia state tax returns for the past five years
  • Must have a valid Georgia Drivers License
  • Occasional travel required
  • DOR temporary associates must have completed at least 6 consecutive months on their current assignment for consideration
