Job Summary:
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of Georgia’s youth? Join the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) and play a vital role in shaping a safer, more supportive environment for young people in our care. We’re looking for a dedicated and experienced professional to lead the daily operations of a youth detention center. This leadership role is key to ensuring a safe, secure, and rehabilitative setting for justice-involved youth while guiding and supporting staff in their professional growth.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the overall operation and administration of a secure youth detention facility.
  • Ensure the safety and security of youth by overseeing day-to-day facility functions and staff performance.
  • Provide leadership, training, and mentorship to staff to promote professional development and a positive work environment.
  • Oversee hiring, supervision, evaluation, and when necessary, disciplinary actions and staff development.
  • Manage budgets, resources, and administrative functions to support effective facility operations.
  • Monitor and evaluate facility programs, services, and safety procedures.
  • Respond to emergencies and implement appropriate crisis management protocols.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain facility policies and procedures in accordance with agency and legal standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND
  • Three (3) years of closely related experience in a criminal justice or correctional system,
    OR
  • Three (3) years of supervisory custodial experience in a criminal justice or correctional system, including at least one (1) year at a managerial level in a law enforcement setting.
    Note: Some positions may require P.O.S.T. certification.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with two or more of the following:

  1. Four (4) or more years of supervisory experience in a secure adult or juvenile facility.
  2. Experience managing security operations and emergency preparedness programs.
  3. Background in mental health or juvenile detention center (JDC) services.
  4. Current or former DJJ employment experience.
