DESCRIPTION: 

English as a Second Language instructor positions for day and evening programs in Clarkston (DeKalb County) and Conyers (Rockdale County). 

LOCATION(S): 

GPTC - Paul Starnes Center, Clarkston, GA and Rockdale Career Academy, Conyers, GA 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Instructs and supervises students with limited English proficiency in English as a Second Language (ESL) classes; 

  • May teach online and in-person classes (classes taught from campus/not from home unless specified); 

  • Develops program and course outlines adhering to the Technical College System of Georgia Curriculum framework; 

  • Evaluates student progress in attaining goals and objectives; 

  • Develops teaching methods and maintains classroom management procedures and documentation; 

  • Assists with recruitment and retention; 

  • Ensures safety and security requirements are met; 

  • Attends in-service training, workshops, seminars, and conferences; 

  • Oversees classroom volunteers.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

Experience teaching or working with adult English as a Second Language students preferred. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Bachelor’s degree from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university *AND* completed course comparable with the curriculum taught *OR* experience/expertise in curriculum taught.  

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Meet minimum qualifications and work experience in Adult Education or English as a Second Language instruction or paid or volunteer experience working with immigrants/refugees. 

Completion of a bachelor's degree from a college or university.
