About Columbus

Columbus is merely an hour and a half away from Atlanta and Montgomery. It is seated on the Chattahoochee River, our border with Alabama. Known as the “Fountain City,” Columbus has a picturesque, historic downtown and plenty of charm.

Columbus benefits from its immediate proximity to Ft. Benning. The military heritage in the area includes the National Infantry Museum and the Civil War Naval Museum. Additionally, Columbus is heavily impacted by collegiate life. Having a major university like Auburn University so close can readily be felt. Columbus State University (CSU) has a profound impact on the city, from elevating the lively atmosphere and aesthetic of downtown to the cultural influence of top-notch fine arts programs. It’s easy to enjoy a show at the Springer Opera House or a performance at the RiverCenter.

The Columbus area hosts numerous options for the active. A stretch of the Chattahoochee River that flows through downtown is longest urban whitewater rafting course in the world and has been rated as the world’s best manmade whitewater course. Above the river are zip-lines that whisk the adventurous to a ropes course on the Alabama side then back to Georgia. Columbus also has large CrossFit, cycling, and distance running communities, which benefit from the paved Chattahoochee RiverWalk and Fall Line Trace that constitute 15- and 11-mile trails. Flat Rock Park is host to hiking trails, over 10 miles of mountain biking trails, and a disc golf course, among other things.
