JOB REPSONSIBILITES:

·       This position will report to the Permits and Operations group within the Office of Traffic Operations.

·       Provides technical support and expertise to Signal Permitting Group by reviewing signal designs and related documents.

·       Provides technical support and expertise to the Operational Improvement Program by assisting Program Manager with review of intersections, alternative analysis, concept sketches, etc.

·       Provides technical support and expertise to Access Management Group by reviewing and/or providing recommendations to management on the following:

o   Permit requests submitted on interstate and limited access right of way

o   Permit requests to revise speed zones

o   Permit requests to add Automated Traffic Enforcement Safety Devices (ATESDs)

·       Assists with maintaining various manuals, policies, and guidelines relating to Signal and Access Management permitting.

AGENCY SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

·       Advanced level experience in order to perform highly complex traffic operational studies, ICE analysis or reviews for assigned areas or projects within a district.

·       Advanced level knowledge of traffic engineering principles, methods, policies and procedures.

·       Demonstrated experience to interpret, analyze, and summarize information for the purpose of writing technical reports related to transportation engineering.

·       Demonstrated experience to apply appropriate functions to solve engineering related mathematical problems.

·       Demonstrated experience using basic computer applications such as word processing, excel and database management programs.

·       Demonstrated experience reading and interpreting pertinent information on plans, maps, and graphs quickly and accurately.

·       Demonstrated ability to interact with others to influence, motivate, and challenge them.

·       Possesses good communication skills with the demonstrated ability to express ideas and facts to individuals or groups effectively to work effectively with managers, co-workers and external staff.

·       Possesses the physical strength and agility necessary to walk throughout project or area of study.

·       Possesses a basic knowledge of the organizational structure of the department and general organizational rules and policies.

·       Demonstrated experience to make sound, well-informed decisions to develop new insights into situations and apply innovative solutions to problems.

·       Demonstrated experience to adapt quickly to change and effectively manage own priorities setting well-defined and realistic personal goals.

·       Committed to providing quality service to customers.

·       Displays a high level of commitment toward work and a high standard of ethical conduct; displays a professional image.

 

AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·       Possesses EIT (certification as an Engineer-in-Training).

·       Demonstrated experience to work independently of direct supervision and guidance

·       Demonstrated experience using various microsimulation software such as Synchro, Vissim, Sidra, etc.

·       Demonstrated experience using technical manuals, guidelines, and policies to aid in reviewing various engineering design and study documents submitted to the Department.

Demonstrated experience using big data sets such as RITIS to identify the State’s most congested intersections and corridors for screening of operational improvement alternatives

Bachelor's degree in engineering from an A.B.E.T. accredited program OR equivalent degree in a related field and six (6) months of job- related experience OR a Valid Engineering -in-Training (EIT) certificate and six (6) months of job- related experience OR Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the State of Georgia and six (6) months of job- related experience. Note For International degrees: Applicants with a bachelor's degree from an international institution must submit a course-by-course evaluation from a GDOT approved credentialing provider.
