DESCRIPTION: 

The Electrical Line Worker with Pintle Hook Restriction Instructor position in the Division of Industrial Technologies and Professional Services will report to the Division Chair.  The instructor will prepare and deliver lectures and/or lab course material; prepare lesson plans for classroom instruction; evaluates students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives; will prepare and maintain all required documentation and administrative reports; will ensure that safety and security requirements are met in the training area; will display a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operate effectively within the organizational structure; demonstrate trustworthiness and responsible behavior; assist with recruitment retention and job placement efforts.  Will perform other job assignments and duties assigned by the Division Chair. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Prepares lesson plans for classroom and laboratory instruction for specified courses.  

  • Organize and conduct classes using a variety of learning experiences and activities. 

  • Demonstrate a positive attitude toward student learning and course progress. 

  • Demonstrate current and comprehensive knowledge of the subject areas and courses to be taught, including labs. 

  • Accurately and timely, submit required reports to the students and college. 

  • Instruct classes in plumbing and pipefitting utilizing techniques and knowledge of discipline-facilitating student learning. 

  • Provide appropriate means to assess student progress and provide timely feedback on lectures and labs. 

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve educational objectives. 

  • Strong oral communication skills, professional attitude, and desire to help students succeed in their career goals. 

  • Strive to enhance instructional and learning performance. 

  • Ability to work well with GPTC students, people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds. 

  • Evaluates students’ progress in attaining their respective goals and objectives.  

  • Communicates students’ progress to students and appropriate personnel according to established guidelines. 

  • Accurately record pertinent information in students’ records as necessary. 

  • Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports to departments and college.  

  • Complies and submits reports in a timely manner, meeting all GPTC deadlines. 

  • Plans and conducts outreach to the business community with the goal of developing partnerships and delivery of college services locally and regionally.  

  • Assist in the recruitment and registration of prospective and enrolled students. 

  • Maintains workforce and technical knowledge of plumbing and pipefitting training programs including industry certifications and credentials.  

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High school diploma or GED 

  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience as a Lineman in the electrical utility industry. 

  • Valid and Current Georgia Department of Motor Vehicles Commercial Truck Driver’s License: Class A 

  • Hold a valid Lineman Journeyman Card.  

  • Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of current instructional techniques and technology 

  • Must demonstrate excellent written, oral communication and interpersonal skills 

  • A flexible work schedule is necessary, as classes may be taught during day, evening, and/or weekends 

  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office Products 

  • Also, must be able to teach morning or evening classes based on program needs. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Related work experience as a journeyman line worker including overhead and underground distribution construction and maintenance, and as a crew supervisor and/or trainer. A minimum of five years of professional experience as a Lineman in the electrical utility industry preferred. Hold a valid Lineman Journeyman Card. 

  

Knowledge of Blackboard (Learning Management System) is desirable. Experience in hybrid and/or virtual instruction or courses 

 

Experience in teaching/advising/mentoring college-level students with broad, diverse backgrounds is also desired. 

 

Minimum qualifications for this position will be determined by the teaching discipline and compliance with appropriate accrediting bodies. Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the course assigned.
