POSITION OVERVIEW:

This job is an advanced-level position in the agriculture compliance job series that supervises Companion Animal – Equine Field staff to ensure regulatory compliance by GDA Companion Animal-Equine licensees, of the Animal Protection Act, Humane Care for Equines Act, and the Bird Dealer Licensing Act, APA rules and regulations, and oversees all investigative and training activities of field staff in coordination with the Training and Development Specialist.

 

 

 

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision;

  Ability to lead in the area of assignment;

  Direct and oversee the duties of field personnel

  May train less experienced or new employees as required

  Documents on the progress of employees’ field performance

  Enforces all applicable laws, rules, and regulations in the area of assignment

  Collects, transports, submits lab samples, as required, and maintains the chain of custody

  Assists in the development and implementation of changes in program policies, procedures, laws, and/or regulations;

  Reports compliance findings to FDA, USDA, EPA, and/or other State and Federal agencies or others as required;

  Educates and advises consumers and constituents on laws, rules, regulations, developmental programs, new equipment, and/or techniques

  Provides technical expertise to the regulated community and public;

  Writes reports on findings and recommendations and provides advice on corrective action

  Prepares technical reports and inspection reports, memoranda, and various other types of correspondence.

  Creates and maintains a high level of performance that is consistent, high quality, and customer-focused.

  Interacts with all levels of government in a way that promotes respect, encourages cooperation, and contributes to excellent performance;

  May testify in legal proceedings.

  Serves as a job expert or organization resource in the assigned area.

 

 

 

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

  Knowledge of proper CAE inspection techniques and procedures

  Determines compliance or non-compliance of established guidelines as required;

  Knowledge of new and current CAE programs;

  Knowledge of policies and procedures for taking corrective action;

  Identify violations of federal and state laws, rules, and regulations;

  Knowledge of safety and sanitary practices;

  Knowledge of the sampling guidelines;

  Ability to use area-specific computer software

  Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the general public;

  Dealing with controversial matters in a tactful manner

  Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

  Knowledge of biosecurity measures and emergencies;

  General knowledge of zoonotic diseases

  General knowledge of animal welfare and animal husbandry practices.

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  Companion Animal/Equine field experience.

  Knowledge of CAE laws, rules, and regulations (Animal Protection Act).

  Experience in public speaking.

  Experience in performing CAE inspections and enforcement of rules and regulations.

 

 

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  Ability to lift and handle 50+ lb.

  Working in inclement weather conditions.

  Working around animals and reptiles of all sizes.
