Job Summary

The Georgia Department of Education’s (GaDOE) - Atlanta Area School for the Deaf located in Clarkston, GA, is recruiting for an experienced Professional Education Worker with the working job title of Substitute Teacher. Under broad supervision, performs duties including but not limited to:

Description of Duties

  •  Follow lesson plans provided by the Teacher
  •  Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan
  •  Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
  •  Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs for each individual student
  •  Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the hallways, on the playground and in the cafeteria

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

  • Fluency in ASL and knowledge of students with additional disabilities 
  • Ability to teach students on different levels
