This position is located in the Joint Force Headquarters Public Affairs Office (PAO) of the Georgia National Guard/GaDOD. The primary purpose of the position is to fulfill the Georgia DOD’s obligation to engage the public, key stake holders and the command in order to both inform internal, and external audiences through varied trusted lines of communications means and methods.  This includes management of the GA DOD external website, Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), FLICKr accounts, and DVIDS presence, in order to set the conditions for situational awareness of GA DOD activities, capabilities, and to garner support for the GA DOD strategic goals.
 
Occasional travel throughout the state of Georgia to cover assigned stories/events will be required.
 
Agency Specific Qualifications:
 
In addition to the required entry qualifications, the successful candidate must be proficient in American Forces Public Information Management System’s Web management, all social media applications, internet social bookmarking, Sharepoint, Google Alerts, HTML, InDesign, Adobe PDF creation and formatting, Adobe Reader, RSS feeds, and all Microsoft Office Applications.
 
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to those applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, have experience with the following:
 

  • Must have understanding of the Georgia Department of Defense. Preferably a previous member of the GA Army National Guard, Georgia Air National Guard or State Defense Force.        
  • Professional management of a website, Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), or Flickr            
  • Project management of printed report production.          
  • Command information dissemination.      
  • General public affairs tasks

The selected applicant must meet the following standards:

1. Pass a pre-employment drug test. 
2. Possess a valid drivers' license. 
3. Eligible to work in the U.S. 
4. Able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
 
*** After passing a pre-employment drug test, the selected applicant will be placed in the pool for the State Random Drug Testing Program.

***A Georgia criminal records check will be conducted before an offer of employment is made. Successful completion of a federal background investigation will be a term and condition of continued employment.

Associate degree in communication, journalism, or other closely related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of media relations job-related experience; or  one (1) year of experience at the lower level Media Relations Specialist 1 (GSP150) or equivalent position.
