Job Title:  Education Aide

Division:  Education

Reports to:  Lead Teacher / Principal

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The individual in this position assists teachers with curriculum planning, supervision of students, and teaching children in a classroom setting; assists in presenting and reinforcing learning concepts.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Provides support to teachers to ensure a safe and stimulating educational environment

·         Assists teachers in planning and preparation for daily activities; aids instructional efforts of the teacher.

·         Assists the teacher in preparing lesson outlines, plans, and curricula in assigned areas

·         Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids for use in the classroom, including activity sheets, drawings, and similar handouts

·         Presents subject matter to students, under the guidance of a teacher, utilizing a variety of methods including stories, discussions, and role playing

·         Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts

·         Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities, such as preparing, typing, copying and filing instructional materials

·         Operate and care for instructional equipment and materials

·         Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom according to approved procedures

·         Participate in professional growth activities

·         Follow the communicated policies and procedures of the school district

·         Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education:

·         Associate degree from an accredited institution in general education, sociology, or related field, Required

·         Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution preferred

 

Experience

·         Minimum 1 year of experience in a school setting or related field - Required

·         Minimum 2 years of experience working in an educational setting – Preferred

·         Successful experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified - Preferred

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·         Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

·         Ability to understand and follow safety procedures

·         Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures

·         Ability to provide activities for students that encourage healthy growth

·         Child supervision skills

·         Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for students

·         Skill in preparing instructional aids and plans

CERTIFICATIONS

Must hold or be eligible for a Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS

Working Conditions:

·         Normal classroom environment

·         Understanding of detention operations

 

Physical Demands:

·         Routine physical activities in the classroom / school environment

·         Light lifting of 30 pounds or less
